About Us

That Scrappy Life

Scrappy Pixel was born out of a deep love for small businesses and a whole lot of “Hey, I can help with that!” moments. After years of handing out her number at local markets and offering free advice over Instagram DMs, Kat decided it was time to create something a little more official.

Scrappy Pixel exists to support the dreamers, the doers, and the DIYers, especially the ones who can’t afford flashy agencies but still deserve standout design and smart solutions.

This brand isn’t just a portfolio or a side hustle. It’s a passion project rooted in community, creativity, and the belief that scrappy doesn’t mean sloppy, it means resourceful, resilient, and ready to grow.

Who We Are

Scrappy Pixel is run by Kat Ohren, a Belleview, Florida native with a background in Information Sciences and Technology from Penn State University and certifications in SEO, digital marketing, and analytics. She’s a web and graphic designer, content creator, raccoon enthusiast, and firm believer that good design should be accessible and authentic.

You can learn more about Kat below, or catch her helping small businesses at local events (probably with a coffee in one hand and her dog, Nova, in the other).

What We Charge

One of the best parts of Scrappy Pixel? No fancy office. No bloated fees. Just quality work and honest pricing. Since Kat works from home and runs this as a passion project, we’re able to keep our costs low and pass those savings on to the businesses that need it most.

We believe in full transparency, so you’ll find real pricing on our Services page (no surprise invoices here!). And if you’re local to Marion County, we’re especially committed to working with your budget to help your brand shine.

Why Scrappy Pixel

Because you shouldn’t have to break the bank to build something beautiful, Scrappy Pixel blends creativity, strategy, and heart to deliver standout design and digital support, especially for the businesses that need it most.

We’re here for the underdogs, the startups, the passionate side hustlers, and the folks doing it all themselves (until now).

Our Values

• Resourcefulness over flash
• Clarity over confusion
• Community over competition
• Authenticity always
• Whimsy encouraged

We believe good design should feel like you, and we’re here to help you show up boldly, beautifully, and on your terms.

Kat Ohren

Kat is a Belleview, Florida native with a passion for animals, painting, crafting, and all things tech. A true creative with a strategic streak, she began freelancing while studying Information Sciences and Technology at Penn State, and turned that hustle into a 12-year career with one of her earliest clients. Over the years, she’s worn many hats: web and graphic designer, product developer, copywriter, marketer, and now, full-time Technical Editor.

Scrappy Pixel is her way of blending everything she loves: helping small businesses grow, using design to tell stories, and making the internet feel a little more personal (and a lot less intimidating). When she’s not building websites or sketching logos, you can find her painting whimsical animals, working on her latest writing project, or snuggling up with her pup, Nova.

Meet Scraps – Our Resident Raccoon

Scraps is the heart and hustle behind Scrappy Pixel. Equal parts curious and clever, he’s a resourceful little raccoon who believes that great design doesn’t have to be fancy to be fabulous. When he’s not hoarding color swatches and snacking on leftover pixels, you’ll find him tinkering with code, sketching logos, or cheering on small brands with a lot of heart.

He’s a little messy, a lot scrappy, and always ready to help you make something unforgettable.

Just starting out with a new business, I needed a lot of help. Initially, I asked Kat to design a logo for me. When I loved that I asked for a website, fliers, business cards, and even a video ad! She is wonderful to work with and I’d highly recommend her.

I needed a website for my art. I tried to build one on my own without much success. Kat worked with me and was so kind and understanding. With her work, I not only got my portfolio online but I’m also now able to sell my work and accept commissions. Thanks Kat!
